The new set introduces two new characters to the game: the ruler of Vietnam, Mrs. Trieu, and Kublai Khan, the ruler of China or Mongolia.

Vietnamese civilization: Lady Trieu, unique “war elephant” unit and unique “Thanh” building
• Civilization Unique Ability: Vietnam´s unique ability is Nine Dragon River Delta. All specialized areas on land can only be built on rainforest, swamp and forest tiles
• Unique ability of the leader: Mrs. Chieu’s unique ability - “Resist the aggressor” - increases the combat power of units in battle on the cells of the rainforest, swamps and forests; if these cells belong to Vietnam, then the bonus increases
• Unique Unit: Vietnam has a unique medieval ranged unit - the war elephant ("woyen"). This unit can move after an attack and has increased mobility
• Unique District: A unique "Thanh" district produces an additional crop for each adjacent district. After studying aviation, this area produces not only culture, but also an equal amount of tourism

Kublai Khan can rule China or Mongolia (Rise and Fall is required to play as Mongolia)
• Unique leader ability: Khubilai´s unique ability - "Gerege" - provides an additional economic policy cell under any government. When establishing the first trading post in another power´s city, this ability grants random insight and inspiration.
• If Kublai rules China, he receives even greater bonuses to the development of science, and an additional policy cell enhances economic measures

New game mode - "Monopolies and Corporations"
• Together with the “Vietnam and Kublai Kublai” set, a new mode appears in the game - “Monopolies and Corporations”. It allows you to raise the economic component of the game to a qualitatively new level and receive rewards for the development and use of natural resources in any era
• Creating enterprises from excess rare resources gives huge bonuses to the cities in which they are located and additional Great Merchant points
• Businesses can be converted into corporations and given unique names. Corporations enhance all the effects of enterprises and produce products
• A civilization that owns all the world´s reserves of a particular rare resource can create a monopoly. Monopolies provide tourism points and can significantly increase gold earnings per turn

New area and new buildings:
• The “Vietnam and Kublai Kublai” set also includes a new area and new buildings:
- New area: nature reserve; it can be created in an isolated area without infrastructure
- New buildings: two buildings can be built in the reserve. The grove becomes available after the discovery of mysticism, and the reserve - after the discovery of nature protection
