In the small Gothic town of Fortuna, Sparda ruled, the strongest demon who saved humanity from the forces of evil in the past. Sparda was served by the Order of the Sword, standing guard over the order, until one day Dante, the rebellious son of the demon and the human woman Eve, burst in and destroyed all the warriors of the Order, opening the passage to the city for the forces of evil.
Only the young fighter Nero, together with his beloved and friends, can prevent the demons from entering the human world and rampaging in it. He forces Dante to run away, but does not even realize that the darkness did not come along with the insane offspring of Sparda, but long before his appearance...
