The LGV Rhône-Alpes and LGV Méditerranée Route Extension Add-on will introduce you to a new 200 km line, an extension of the popular LGV: Marseille - Avignon Route Add-On. Together, they will make up more than 300 km of French high-speed railway lines between Lyon and Marseille. To use the add-on, you must install the LGV: Marseille - Avignon Route Add-On (sold separately). Information about the Addition In the 1990s, the LGV Sud-Est line has been regularly connecting Paris and Lyon for almost a decade, successfully saving passengers time traveling between these cities. Therefore, it was decided to extend the route south to Valencia and build a new high—speed line - LGV Rhône-Alpes. The 115-kilometer line was opened in two stages. The first section was opened during the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, after which the railway connection to Lyon was significantly accelerated. The second section began operation in the summer of 1994, and at the same time the line was brought to Lyon Saint-Exupery Airport and the station was opened there. The LGV Rhône-Alpes line has proven itself well, so it was decided to build another LGV highway from Valencia to the south of France — LGV Méditerranée. The result was a high-speed railway line that ran through Marseille and could compete with airlines in transporting passengers to the French capital. The construction of the LGV Méditerranée began in 1996. The line was supposed to stretch for 216 km from the classic Saint-Charles station in Marseille to two new stations in Avignon and Aix-en-Provence. Traffic on the route was opened in 2001. The LGV Rhône-Alpes and LGV Méditerranée lines in the south of France began to be served by high-speed TGV® Duplex® trains, which transported thousands of passengers at speeds of 300 and even 320 km/h (on the main sections) along picturesque landscapes. The entire route is equipped with the TVM430 (Transmission Voie-Machine) system, the latest locomotive signaling system designed specifically for high—speed highways with high traffic density. The classic traffic light alarm system is not very convenient for high-speed routes, as the driver has too little time to see the traffic light flashing outside the window and react to it correctly. The TVM430 screen is installed in the cab and transmits information about the maximum permissible speed to the driver without the need to install conventional traffic lights along the way. However, in the classic section of Marseille, the usual BAL alarm system is used. The LGV Rhône-Alpes & Méditerranée addition of the Train Simulator game includes a railway line from the Gare Saint-Charles in Marseille to the stations of Paris-Dieu and Saint-Exupery in Lyon, which doubles the original route and adds up to a total of 309 km of breathtaking scenery and an exciting ride on high-speed trains.
