Description:
Some of London´s busiest train routes serving the city´s two busiest terminals are featured in this stunning new South London Train Simulator network. The many intersecting and overlapping lines that make up the Greater London railway network today include two of the capital´s most famous and busiest terminals, London Victoria and London Bridge. The network of lines was first built in the second half of the 1800s by a number of private railway companies operating at the time, including the London, Shatama and Dover Railway (LCDR), the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway (LBSCR), the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) and the Great Western Railway the road (GWR). The main terminals of the London Victoria and London Bridge network are located on the banks of the River Thames. The last station was opened in 1836, making it the first and oldest operating railway terminal in London today, although part of the station was demolished in the mid-1800s to expand the terminal as we know it today. London Victoria, now the busiest terminal in London, was opened 24 years later, initially as two stations operated by competing companies, but merged into one station by the Southern Railway in the early 1920s. When passenger trains leave these two major terminals, the lines cross some of the most densely populated areas of the UK capital; as well as the main lines to West and East Croydon stations, a further nine-mile (14 km) line through Denmark Hill and a 16-mile (26 km) outer ring line through Crystal Palace make up the South London network. The network also offers unsurpassed and spectacular views of many famous London landmarks, including the Shard, Battersea Power Station, City Hall, Crystal Palace Tower, Millwall New Den soccer field, Tower Bridge and London Bridge. The Train Simulator route package also includes two EMUS – Southern Trains Class 456 and Southeastern Class 375 ‘Electrostar´. Both are common sights on the network and carry thousands of passengers to and from the city every day. The Class 456 was commissioned in the southern region in 1991 to replace the obsolete Class 416 2EPB units. Although most units have since been replaced by Class 455 and Class 377, many are still in service with South West Trains. The four-car Class 375 Electrostar started operating in 2002. Due to their high electricity consumption, most of the third rail electricity supply has been upgraded in the southern region and is still in widespread use on routes across South London and on commuter routes throughout Sussex and Kent.
