Mezhov was convicted of murder with hooligan motives, committed with particular cruelty (items “d”, “and”, part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), hooliganism (part 2 of article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), theft of property ( part 1 of article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), the deliberate destruction of another´s property (part 2 of article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) by 8 years in prison with a sentence in a penal colony.
