Product description

The dihydric alcohol ethylene glycol, C2H4(OH)2, mixed with water is widely used as an automotive antifreeze. Calculate the freezing point (°C) of solutions containing 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 wt. % C2H4(OH)2 based on the heat of fusion of H2O (ice) 6009.5 J/mol and assuming ideal solutions. Based on the results of the calculations, draw a graph of the dependence of the freezing point on the content of C2H4 (OH) 2. (Note: commercial antifreezes based on C2H4(OH)2 contain additional additives, due to which their freezing point is somewhat lower than in pure mixtures of C2H4(OH)2 - H2O)
