You need to activate the code through the console and in the US region. Restrictions on this code:
- The inability to renew the current subscription with this code
- Unable to get Xbox 360 games by subscription

After activating the code, you will not see that the account status has changed to Gold, because this is a Trial subscription with limited functionality.
