It began to create a new series of rolling stock. No first prototypes of the new locomotive, called DB V 60, were ready by 1955. Soon their production became mass - by 1964, 942 diesel locomotives were delivered by the end of the issue. In total, 2 modifications of the locomotive were produced - light and heavy, designed for different types of work. In the computerized classification system, they received the designations BR 260 and 261. In 1987, along with other locomotives, they were combined into the Kleinlok group (Kleinlock - a small locomotive), which made it possible to reduce the costs of training driver. Within the framework of this association, they again changed the name and became known as BR 360 and 361.
