As demand for trucking grew and the share of electrified lines increased in the mid-1960s, it became apparent to Deutsche Reichsbahn that the existing freight locomotives were no longer up to the task. In addition, the rolling stock produced before World War II required urgent replacement. This meant only one thing - a new electric locomotive was needed. DR supported the project of a six-axle locomotive that could handle both passenger and freight trains, and also had such features as a light steel body and an ergonomic driver´s cab. The new Co´Co ´axle locomotives were designated´ E51 ´, and production of the first prototypes was launched in the early 1970s. In 1974 prototypes were ready and received the designation DR BR 250. After the unification of Germany in 1994, the numbering of the DR BR 250 locomotives was changed in accordance with the Deutsche Bahn standards - they became the designation DB BR 155. After that BR 155 was ubiquitous on German railways with different types of freight trains, including container trains on high-speed lines. Known among railway enthusiasts as "Electric Containers", they have successfully stood the test of time, and now you have the opportunity to drive heavy freight trains on the nostalgic Ruhr-Sieg Nord route in Train Sim World! Note: This add-on requires the Ruhr-Sieg Nord route, sold separately.
